Alabama Forest Owners Associaton Wrap Up

On April 21, I spoke at the Alabama Forest Owners Association (AFOA) annual meeting about Android and iOS apps that can be used in forestry for landowners, property managers, and foresters. Many of the apps can be found here on ForestGeek.com in the review or tips sections. I was pleased with the amount of people that were interested and the positive feedback I received.

The annual meeting was held in Tuscaloosa, AL at the University of Alabama Conference Center. Friday afternoon's activities included a tour of the Pruett Family's property near Moundville, AL and a tour of Westervelt's nearby sawmill. After the tours, dinner was served on the banks of the Black Warrior River at the Moundville Archaeological Park

The meeting was well attended on Saturday with anywhere from 250 to 300 landowners in attendance. The day was filled with speakers from various backgrounds with many interesting presentations. Presentations included information on forest management plans, timber sales, wildlife management, hunting leases, taxes, building your dream cabin, and more.

I enjoyed the opportunity to speak with the landowners that attended the meeting. Other than questions about apps, I fielded questions like, "what is the best android tablet to buy?" Or, "which mobile phone should I buy?" I shared my thoughts and hopefully helped a few people out.

I am interested in any future speaking engagements that come my way. If you are involved with an organization, or know someone, that may  be interested in hearing my presentation about forestry apps, feel free to send an email to roger@forestgeek.com to inquire about my availability.
